Responsive Design

We study the analytics of your website to understand the way your users interact with your website; we then plan the mobile layout and the content around these facts.

This ensures that your visitors can access the content they need in their preferred format.

Knowledge of the Mobile Market

Responsive vs. Mobile Friendly

They sound like they mean the same thing but there’s a subtle difference between the two. Responsive design changes size according to the site of your browser window – try making your browser window smaller while looking at our site and you’ll see what we mean. It rearranges gradually until it’s finally at iPhone screen size. A mobile site only really presents one alternative layout, which is the mobile site (you can tell when you’re on a mobile site when it says m.thewebsiteyoureon.com rather than www.thewebsiteyoureon.com.

Responsive websites have:

  • Dynamic content that changes according to the browser size
  • Condensed/simplified navigation
  • Images that are optimised for mobile

Mobile friendly sites have:

  • Static content that doesn’t change or resize
  • Simplified navigation
  • Smaller images

We design responsive, rather than mobile-friendly, sites as standard. It means that you cater to a much wider range of devices and deliver according to each one’s requirements, rather than trying to cater to everything from a blackberry to an iPad with a single mobile friendly design.

Mobile Statistics

Between 30% and 60% of traffic now comes from tablets and smart phones – without a quality responsive site you could increase your bounce rate and lose thousands of potential conversions. Social traffic is even more likely to come from mobile devices, with 85% of 10 million twitter users now access the platform via their phones. A responsive or mobile friendly site is now a basic consumer expectation.

A Google survey revealed that 67% of users are likely to buy or convert after visiting a site that’s mobile-friendly, while 61% of users will move on to another one if the site is not responsive. If you don’t offer a good mobile experience, you may not even appear on mobile searches.

Good responsive design doesn’t require pinch navigation to see structures, makes it easy to navigate through the site, and makes it easy to get in touch or buy on a mobile device.

We offer a range of services to ensure that your site succeeds on mobile. If you already have a desktop design and don’t want to change it, we can transfer your website onto our CMS and make it responsive as part of that process. If your entire website needs an update, we always ensure that our websites are responsive as part of a standard web design.
