Blurred vision with new Facebook plug-in

3rd August 2012

If you are a Facebook user and not one of the 83 million “Fake” users, you might start to notice some blurry photos appearing on your network.

Computer security specialists McAfee are teaming up with Intel to ensure that photo sharing on Facebook gets a little safer (and a little blurrier) with a new product it is launching called Social Protection.

Once you have installed Social Protection, it will show your photos as blurs to anyone viewing them who doesn’t have the plug-in. They will only be able to see your pictures once they have installed it.

McAfee’s new software will allow you to control who views your photos and it will prevent other users from downloading your pictures to their computer. Users who try and get round this by print screening the image or capturing a screenshot, will also be denied by the plug-in which will show a padlock icon over the image when this is attempted.

The plug-in, which will be available on all the main PC web browsers including Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome, will do more than just keep your photos secure, it will help to keep your identity safe by using facial recognition software, notifying you if any other users upload photos of you.
